Galloway enjoys some of Britain's most stunning scenery, yet, is often described as Scotland's
forgotten corner.
That's why, if you are looking for a tranquil holiday away from the crowds,
a place where you and your family can enjoy beautiful coast and inland views, this is the place for you!
That doesn't mean that there's little else to see or do. Far from it. Barrhill Farm Cottages are ideally situated
to make the most of your holiday right here in Galloway.
We are just five minutes' drive from Newton Stewart town
centre with shops and amenities including three supermarkets, The Co-operative, an Aldi and a Sainsbury's. The town also
has three petrol stations, a first-class Cinema and a Museum. Newton Stewart is the Gateway to the Galloway Hills which are
situated in Britain's largest Forest Park.
The Galloway Forest is loved by ramblers and mountain bikers
alike. Here, you will find the world-class 7Stanes Biking Trails, the best outside North America. But, for those seeking solitude
or simply wanting to admire the stunning views, the Forest offers a chance to get far away from the stresses and strains of
modern living.
Just 10 minutes' drive away is the former county town of Wigtown, Scotland's
National Book Town.
With some 16 book shops, you're bound to find something of interest to
read and Wigtown also boasts Britain's largest local nature reserve with many species of birds to view from the bird hide
and an osprey visitor centre in the magnificent and imposing County Buildings.
Thirty
minutes' drive away is the mediaeval city of Whithorn which has a visitor centre charting the town's early origins
as the cradle of Christianity in Scotland. Nearby is St Ninian's cave.
Also 30 minutes' drive away is a spectacular sandy beach
near Monreith, Port William, with fantastic views to be enjoyed over Luce Bay.
The
pretty harbour villages of Garlieston, where the Mulberry Harbour, a huge floating pontoon crucial to the successful Normandy
Landings in World War II, was tested and the pretty harbour village of the Isle of Whithorn are also close by.
Clatteringshaws and Glentrool Lochs are also well worth a visit and are less than 30 minutes' drive away.
