There's so much to do in Galloway. For walkers, there are excellent coastal, forest and
hill walks. For families, the Kirroughtree Visitor Centre near Newton Stewart (2 miles from Barrhill Farm Cottages) is the
perfect place from which to explore the Galloway Forest and includes a children's adventure playground.
The Visitor Centre also has a bike hire shop and the forest
features the best mountain biking trails outside North America and also nearby, you can take part in zorbing (mountainballing)
blokarting, grass sledging, clay pigeon shooting, Segway tours and tank driving!
At Creetown
(5 miles from Barrhill Farm Cottages), there is the Gem Rock Museum. Creetown also hosts a Country and Western Festival each
September.
Newton
Stewart (1 mile from Barrhill Farm Cottages) has a museum and a first-class cinema.
Wigtown,
Scotland's National Book Town (6 miles from Barrhill Farm Cottages), is the perfect place for book lovers and ornithologists.
The Osprey Visitor Centre is situated in the town's County Buildings.
Port William (18 miles from Barrhill Farm Cottages) features
some beautiful coastline and sandy beaches at nearby Monreith.
Golfers will find an abundance of excellent golf clubs nearby
including Newton Stewart (2 miles from Barrhill Farm Cottages), Wigtown (6 miles from Barrhill Farm Cottages) and
St Medans (15 miles from Barrhill Farm Cottages).
